Inter-agency conversation on crisis and child labour in the framework of the World Day against Child Labour 2020

How to respond to child labour in the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic in Latin America and the Caribbean?

This Wednesday June 10 at 9:30 a.m. (GMT-5) , the inter-agency conversation on “Crisis and Child Labour” will be held on the Zoom platform, where the specialists of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), will share a view of the current context generated by the COVID-19,  its impact on the situation of children and adolescents, particularly with regard to the child labour risks in the region and will point to some response paths based on the policy to face this challenge.

During the conversation, which will have simultaneous translation Spanish-English and vice versa,  the following will participate: Julietta Rodríguez-Guzmán, Regional Advisor for the PAHO on Workers´ Health; Rodrigo Martínez, Superior Officer for Social Affairs of the ECLAC, and Simon Hills, ILO Specialist in Situations of Fragility and Emergencies for Europe and the Arabic States, who will discuss three key topics: I) the sanitary crisis as an element that increases inequalities, vulnerability and child labour risks, II) the context of the socio-economic crisis as a risk factor associated with child labour in the region and III) child labour as a secondary effect of COVID-19 with serious consequences for development.
