Child labor in Latin America and the Caribbean

  • Between the years 2000 and 2016, 9.5 million children and adolescents have been separated from child labor.
  • 10.5 million people between the ages of 5 and 17 are still in child labor, of which 6.3 million carry out hazardous work.
  • Child labor puts the education and health of millions of boys and girls at risk and reduces young people's options to access decent and protected jobs.
  • To face it, it is necessary to better target policies and services for the most vulnerable groups, such as the population living in extreme poverty, girls and female adolescents, indigenous peoples, among others.
